A special court in Islamabad approved two petitions filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, granting him the right to speak with his children and undergo a medical check-up.
The decision was announced by Special Judge Central FIA, Shah Rukh Arjumand, who approved both of Khan’s requests after reviewing the petitions.Imran’s lawyers, Usman Riaz Gill and Zaheer Abbas, appeared before the court.
During the hearing today, Advocate Gill argued that although a previous court order had called for a medical check-up, this should now be conducted by Khan’s personal doctors in the presence of prison staff. He also requested that regular monthly check-ups be ensured.
Zaheer Abbas added that earlier medical examinations had already been carried out under the Islamabad High Court’s orders. The legal team urged the court to uphold Khan’s right to health and family contact.
After reviewing the submissions, the court ruled in Imran’s favour, granting both requests and ordering jail authorities to arrange a phone conversation between Imran and his children. The court also directed that a medical check-up be carried out by his personal doctors, with a compliance report to be submitted by 28 April.
Imran, who remains jailed amid ongoing legal challenges, has repeatedly raised concerns about restricted family contact and health issues.Meanwhile, Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Khan Swati claimed that party founder Imran Khan has agreed to hold negotiations.
Speaking to reporters outside an anti-terrorism court in Lahore, Swati said that Imran Khan is deeply concerned about the future of the country and the wellbeing of future generations. “The entire nation now stands with the PTI founder,” he stated.
Swati further said that any dialogue that takes place would be productive when it begins.Swati was in court to attend hearings related to multiple arson cases, including the Jinnah House incident. The anti-terrorism court extended his interim bail until May 13.
The prosecution informed the court that the case records are currently with the Supreme Court, where bail petitions are under review. The court instructed the prosecution to present the records at the next hearing.
Earlier, the PTI distanced itself from reports suggesting senior party member Azam Swati is engaged in talks with the military establishment, with party secretary general Salman Akram Raja stating such actions are not sanctioned by the party leadership.
