LAHORE: The Punjab government has successfully distributed 2,000 residential plots to deserving families in the inaugural phase of the Apni Zameen Apna Ghar housing program, marking a significant milestone in affordable housing for low-income residents.

PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz jointly launched the initiative through a digital ceremony. The program utilizes computerized balloting to ensure fair distribution of three-marla plots across 23 housing projects in 19 districts.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally contacted Rukhsana from Attock, the first beneficiary, to extend congratulations. “We are fulfilling genuine commitments, not making empty promises,” stated the Chief Minister, emphasizing the government’s dedication to practical housing solutions.

The distribution covered major cities with Jhelum receiving the highest allocation of 730 plots, followed by Kasur with 388, and Faisalabad with 257. Other beneficiary districts include Lodhran, Okara, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, and Sargodha.

The response has been overwhelming, with over 483,000 registrations and 257,000 applications submitted during the first phase. Following thorough verification by District Scrutiny Committees, 18,308 applicants qualified for the balloting process.

Additionally, the complementary Apni Chhat Apna Ghar mobile application has attracted 1.8 million users province-wide, with 970,000 completed registrations. Under this parallel scheme, more than 118,000 individuals have secured housing loans totaling Rs145 billion.

Provincial authorities have implemented robust digital safeguards to maintain transparency throughout the selection process, reinforcing public confidence in the government’s commitment to equitable housing access for economically disadvantaged citizens.
